This unique property is located in a stunning location
Full of charm & character the decorative barge-boarded dormers give the lodge its striking appearance.
Built in the 1860s for Charles Carnegie, the 10th Earl of Southesk. The property was purchased by the Forestry Commission in the 1930s and later sold to the Scottish Youth Hostel Association who used it as a hostel until 2001. The current owner purchased the property in 2016 and has sympathetically upgraded the lodge to its current condition, and in doing so, prolonging the life of this magnificent house.
It features in Scottish Legal History when Duncan Macpherson returning from Austraila having made his fortune bought the 10,000 acre estate in the late 19th Centrury. He then tried to stop people crossing his land whilst John (Jock) Winter, a local shepherd, fought him and the Scottish Rights of Way and Access Society took a challenge through all the courts to the House of Lords where they finally won the day in 1888. “Jock’s Road” is now a legacy of that legal fight.
As a former shooting lodge, the lodge provides an incredibly spacious holiday retreat with eight bedrooms, seven of which are en suite. The adjoining annexe provides an additional 2 bedrooms plus lounge/diner, bathroom and ground floor access shower room.
The large rooms which are light and airy throughout providing the ideal guest accommodation in this beautiful and tranquil setting. Glen Doll Lodge is secluded, yet accessible and is surrounded by Forestry Commission woodland. The property is accessed via a shared Forestry Commission track which has recently been resurfaced leading to a private driveway.
Garden
Various lawns and borders surround the lodge with a mix of mature trees including Scots Pine, Spruce, Larch and Birch around the periphery. The lodge has parking for numerous vehicles to the front while a gravel track continues to the rear allowing further parking and access.
There is also a covered squash court outside and a timber pole garage which can be used as a log store and kennels.
